Director of JavaScript Development

Alley Interactive is seeking a highly experienced JavaScript developer for a team leadership position. The successful candidate will coach and mentor a group of specialist JavaScript developers while establishing sensible standards for Alley’s broader full-stack development team. The candidate will provide architectural direction for clients and assume a lead engineering role on particularly complex projects.

Our JavaScript practice has grown dramatically in the last few years, and we have made a significant investment of our team’s time into learning and using React and Node.js. The ideal candidate will be familiar with these frameworks and eager to use them to chart new directions and innovations for our client base. Experience within a digital agency environment and knowledge of the open source technology landscape for media and publishing is essential.

  • Deep, expert knowledge of JavaScript, including both the modern ES6 and legacy ES5 specifications.
  • Expert knowledge of React, Node.js, and closely allied technologies (such as Redux, D3, and others), as well as older legacy JS frameworks (including but not limited to jQuery).
  • Equivalently strong knowledge of JavaScript package and build systems (especially npm, yarn, and webpack), as well as git and other common web development tooling.
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring a team of developers and contributing to its professional growth and business success.
  • Intuitive understanding of a digital agency’s workflow and needs, and a passion for delivering great service to clients.
  • Experience with the technology landscape for media and publishing. Experience with nonprofits, higher education, and brand marketing is a plus.
  • Excellent communications skills and comfort with deadlines and meeting customer expectations.
